UK Battle of the Blues Winner David Migden and The Dirty Words to Play Harvest 2013

MARCH 27, 2013
Following the announcement of David Migden and The Dirty Words as this year’s Harvest UK Battle of the Blues winner last night, the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival announced today the addition of chart-topping British band World Party to its growing 2013 lineup.

This announcement follows the UK-NB Battle of the Blues finals last night in London, where David Migden and The Dirty Words took home the top prize and will be appearing on the Festival stage in 2013.

“We look forward to seeing David Migden and The Dirty Words thrill our audiences this September” said Staeben.

The massive success of the UK-NB Battle of the Blues has led to the 3rd year of this competition that sees emerging blues artists from the United Kingdom compete for the chance to play at the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival. Last year’s winners, The Groove-a-Matics, received an outstanding audience response when they took the Harvest stage in 2012.
“Once again, the UK-NB Battle of the Blues has been an overwhelming success, ” said David Seabrook, Festival Communications Director. “This innovative partnership between New Brunswick Tourism, Fredericton Tourism and the Festival is an opportunity to both build awareness in the UK market about what New Brunswick has to offer, and for Harvest to gain a profile with blues fans, artists and agents in the UK. We’re tremendously lucky and thankful to be a part of it”.

This year saw the most entries to date, with more than 100 talented unsigned blues artists from across the UK vying for a spot in the finals. This list was then cut down to 36 semi-finalists who competed in regional heats across England and Scotland throughout January and February.

The winner of each heat—plus one overall runner-up chosen by the judges panel—performed at the final in London, where Kent’s David Migden and the Dirty Words came out on top, winning an all expenses-paid trip to New Brunswick to play on one of the main stages at the Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival in Fredericton in September.

The Festival will announce additional headliners over the coming weeks, leading up to the launch of the full lineup on Tuesday, May 7th. Tickets and passes to the 2013 Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival will go on sale Saturday, May 11th at 9 am, available online at www.ticketpro.ca, through Ticketpro call centre at 1-888-311-9090, or at Harvest Central, 81 Regent Street

David Migden & The Dirty Words’ new album ‘Killing It’ takes you on a journey through the grinding raw Beefheartien truth of the ‘Blues’, the disturbing world of the ‘Rev Jack Crow’, a killer childhood record player called the ‘Admiral’, to the dirtiest humid funk of the title track, and finally to the ethereal ‘The Line’ that takes you to where the sidewalk ends.

Join them in celebrating the sonic fruit basket of American music and follow them on their musical journey through the blues and beyond.

David Migden & The Dirty Words are an exciting electric five piece, performing unique original material in a genre-busting crossover of rock, blues and twisted American roots.

David Migden was raised in Little Rock Arkansas and moved to the UK as a teenager. After playing and touring around London and Europe, initially in the Lee Sankey Group with Matt Schofield and Ian Siegal, he then teamed up with ‘The Dirty Words’ and released ‘Second Hand Tattoo’ to a fantastic response from critics and fans alike.

Gigs across London and the Southeast followed at venues such as The Jazz Cafe, Dean Street Pizza Express, Ronnie Scott’s, the Borderline, and the American Embassy. The band members have played with many other internationally renowned artists including Robert Plant, James Brown, Corinne Bailey Rae, Snowboy, Ian Shaw, Matt Berry, Hamish Stuart (Average White Band), Andy Newmark (Sly & the Family Stone, Roxy Music, John Lennon, Bowie), and have gained a reputation for putting on fantastic shows that focus on David’s incredible songs.

David Migden & The Dirty Words have just released their second album ‘Killing It’ to a great critical reception.
